She did whatever she had to do to take care of my brother-in-law, which was a lot.
Sydney is one of the nicest and most concerned nurses I have ever met! She did whatever she had to do to take care of my brother-in-law, which was a lot. It seems in most places, nurses and doctors don't really listen and care about your needs and wants. Especially when one has so many needs due to all health issues. Things started going downhill on the evening of October 27th. He was to have surgery that day to clean out a wound that had dead tissue and infection. All day, Sydney and her Tech (so sorry I can't remember her name) worked together as a great team to accommodate all his special needs. They checked on him and us all throughout the entire day. They also kept my husband and me (I’m his sister-in-law/POA) of what and why they were doing what they were doing or gonna do. They kept apologizing all day about not being in surgery yet. About shift change time is when things went downhill from there. Sydney and the Tech came in to do vitals, his fever was now 103.9 and he was gurgling. At that time, she saw that he had a fever earlier but was not reported. She needed help and the other floor nurse would not help her out. So Sydney and the Tech did things that needed to be done and the floor doctor came in and ordered things to be done STAT. Then another doctor came in and said about the same, but ordered 1 other thing. Sydney and the Tech had their hands full without much help, 1 other aid came in to help out. In the meantime, he would not respond to commands and had a death rattle, then breathing started getting shallow and Sydney asked for a crash cart. I knew what that meant. Then shortly after that, she said page Code Blue. Then heard “Adult Code Blue” to his room. At that time we were asked to leave the room and lots of people came running. The Chaplain had been called and was with my husband and I. Then, we got the word that they did the best that they could, but they could not revive him and apologized to us. When my husband and I were leaving, we stopped by the nurse's station to let them know that we were leaving. Sydney was at her station and said she was so sorry. I feel that Sydney Wooldridge and her Tech both get awards for going above and beyond in our eyes!
