Sydni has always been an extraordinary RN with excellent bedside manner, even in the worst of situations.

In this particular situation, Sydni had this patient for her three nights in a row, which allows time to get to know the patient as well as their family if one takes it. Sydni developed a connection where the patient and family members felt safe to come to her and ask her questions. Sydni always had a polite and detailed answer.

Turns out that by the end of Sydni's shift on her third night, the patient's family had found out the patient has terminal cancer. They quickly got out of the room and scanned the nursing station for Sydni with urgency and found her. As soon as they locked eyes, they started sobbing and telling Sydni the news. She then proceeds to hug them and cry with them.

Sydni is not the type to be fake or extra in how she acts, so this really showed me how devoted she was to the patient's care, which made her sad to hear the news. It is rare to find an RN who will be open to communicating with family and caring for someone to the point of tears.

It warms my heart that there are people who work for our hospital who truly care, and it fills me with pride.
