This RN walked down to the ACC canteen and purchased an AM/PM pill box with her own money and then filled it with his daily medications. She then educated the veteran on the reason he was taking the medications and which condition they were treating.
This RN's patients absolutely love her because she shows them that she cares. She was triaging an elderly gentleman who was experiencing severe symptoms, which included elevated blood pressure with swelling of the feet. The Veteran had a bag full of medications that were expired and discontinued, had duplicate names but different doses, and had several empty bottles. He expressed frustration with when and which medication he should be taking, so he stopped talking all of them. He lives alone and did not have any family in the area to help him and was not willing to move closer to them or into an assisted living facility. This RN walked down to the ACC canteen and purchased an AM/PM pill box with her own money and then filled it with his daily medications. She then educated the veteran on the reason he was taking the medications and which condition they were treating. She placed a home health consult for a nurse to go to his house to refill his pill box weekly and reiterate the instructions he had given him. This RN would also call him every week to check on him. When the Veteran returned for his follow-up visit, he was taking all of his medication as instructed, and his blood pressure, swelling, and other health issues had improved significantly. The veteran cried when he expressed his gratitude, saying that this RN had saved his life. She always goes above and beyond for the veterans that she serves, and they really appreciate it.

She is one of the most seasoned nurses in the clinic, therefore, she is a resource to all her colleagues. She is constantly interrupted throughout the day by her peers asking her questions or asking for help with a walk-in patient in the clinic, and she always helps while trying to keep up her own full panel of patients. When you walk past her office, she is there for help. The entire clinic appreciates the constant help she gives to everyone every single day.
