On Sunday afternoon, Urgent Care had a very difficult alcoholic patient with substantial psych history and prior encounters with police, come in highly agitated and in a emotional suicidal state. Tabitha Sayles provided amazing care and leadership with this patient. She was amazing at handling this distressed person with the utmost professionalism and skill and treated him with dignity. She had the foresight to bring back the female housemate and friend who brought him in. Tabitha was able to calm him down, enlisting the help of his friend and kept him calm throughout his time in the clinic for more than 20 minutes. I sat on the exam room table without interference and admired how she handled everything. Because of her efforts, three police officers were able to take him without a big fight which he started out planning on, stating he was not going to be handcuffed in an ambulance again. They were able to remove him from the urgent care and transport him to the ER peacefully.
I would like to recognize her for this in some way. This could have all gone very badly if not for what she did for this patient. Without her taking over this visit, I would not have been able to accomplish this.
