Her care extends far beyond medical charts and routines. It’s in the way she adjusts her tone, anticipates his needs, and celebrates his smallest milestones with genuine joy.
Over the past 10 years, our grandson has required continuous, around-the-clock home healthcare—24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. During this decade of care, we have worked with four different nursing agencies, with AOC being the fourth. It’s been a deeply personal, often intrusive journey, involving over 45 unique caregivers entering our home.
Many of these individuals were well-meaning but faced challenges such as language barriers, lapses in professionalism, and, unfortunately, instances of unreliability that forced us to make difficult staffing changes. But then came Taina Valentin. For nearly three years, Taina has brought stability, excellence, and heart into our home. She has become the standard by which every nurse before and after her is measured. In a word, Taina is exceptional. Taina’s dedication to her profession is matched only by her respect for the unique and complex journey we’ve been on—3,729 days and counting—caring for our beloved grandson.
A proud native of Puerto Rico, Taina has not only worked diligently to sharpen her English but has also lovingly taught our grandson words and expressions from her native language, creating a bridge of connection and culture. She approaches each shift not just as a job, but as a calling. With patience, warmth, and extraordinary empathy, she communicates with our grandson—who is non-verbal—in ways that make him feel seen, heard, and deeply loved.
Her care extends far beyond medical charts and routines. It’s in the way she adjusts her tone, anticipates his needs, and celebrates his smallest milestones with genuine joy. Taina’s colorful scrubs—always coordinated with matching shoes—are more than a fashion statement; they’re a symbol of the cheer and light she brings into our home.
Much like a daisy, she radiates positivity and resilience, and has bloomed into a beloved extension of our family. We are profoundly grateful for Taina. Her compassion, professionalism, and unwavering presence have made a lasting impact on our lives. It is our deepest hope that she remains a part of our grandson’s care for many years to come. You are our angel’s angel.
