August 2026 Honoree
Takia Cary, RN
On Father's Day, I visited my father and brought him a coffee. While I sat there, they served his breakfast. Unfortunately, the hospital was out of a few items, and they did not replace them. He was only served one small pancake with instant coffee. Takia came into the room to check his blood sugar before eating. She noticed the served breakfast and immediately reviewed his chart. She found no major dietary restrictions and made the appropriate phone call. Sadly, due to staffing, there was no resolution. She turned around and said "I'll be right back". She returned with breakfast from the cafeteria, which she paid for with her own money. My father and I were both speechless, and we both offered to compensate her. She firmly declined and said, "Absolutely not. My patients will never go without food or a shower. I do not want anything in return. I did not do this with an expectation. That's how I was raised." Takia's core values touched my father's heart as well as my own. Takia left to continue her rounds, and the room became emotional with her thoughtfulness. My father was then able to enjoy a delicious breakfast on Father's Day. Takia's professionalism, followed by her heartfelt touch, will forever be cherished in our hearts. Thank you so much, Takia!
Thank you, Takia, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
