Tamara's gracious assistance with Creole translation helped us communicate with a patient and family during a very difficult time. Her first introduction to the patient and family was shortly after admission when she offered her translation services to help identify patient/family questions/concerns. She stayed in the room, took her time and even helped us toilet and then reposition the patient assuring patient comfort. She then provided her phone number on the patient's white board in order to allow for further communication throughout the night. I thanked her profusely as I know she was floated from her regular floor and stopped her busy night to come help a co-worker/patient/family in need!!

Her dedication to excellent patient care was again demonstrated as she came to assist with translation the following night and allowed us to openly discuss code status with a very sick patient, his wife and family. Tamara showed empathy while sitting at the patient's bedside encouraging open dialogue with immediate family and clarifying our patient's code status according to his request. I feel lucky to have Tamara as a part of our healthcare team. Her willingness to help demonstrated by her compassionate bedside manner makes her a deserving of this honor.
