July 2024 Honoree
Tami K. Bockhold, RN
I am a 58-year-old ovarian cancer patient taking part in a clinical trial. It requires frequent overnight visits. I have had Tami as my nurse more than once. This last time, I had learned my cancer was progressing, and I had some decisions to make. I was alone and clearly worried. Tami asked me if I knew about the chapel in St. Marys. I didn’t. She walked me down, talking me through the return route to get back to my room. She shared some of the history of St. Marys with me, clearly proud of the institution she works at. She left me to pray on my own. She knew I was a spiritual woman, and she sensed I was in need of this. I got back to my room feeling at peace and ready to face big questions the next day. I am so grateful to her for going beyond thermometers and blood pressure checks. It was truly holistic care from a compassionate friend, which is how she feels to me now. It makes our trips up there a lot less frightening, knowing I’ll likely see her. You are fortunate to have her caring for your patients.
Thank you, Tami K., for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
