I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. My nurse's name was Tamika and if there is an angel on earth, it's her. I don't know that she ever left my side; she even stayed over because my baby decided to make her arrival at shift change. My delivery was a bit rocky.
Upon receiving my epidural, my blood pressure dropped very low. Tamika reassured me that I was okay, promptly got me the medication I needed to raise my blood pressure, and was so good at explaining everything to my husband and me. She brought me all of the ice and warm blankets I could ever need. She always made sure I was as comfortable as possible; I felt like I was on a vacation at a 5-star resort.
When my baby arrived, she had a nuchal and it was discovered that I had a partial placental abruption. A few seconds after delivery, my baby stopped breathing. I felt so helpless and my husband and I cried as we watched what seemed like every nurse in the hospital run into our room. Tamika stayed by my side and explained everything going on. She had such a calming effect and I am forever thankful for that. My husband and I are both Registered Nurses and neither of us has ever seen a nurse as great as Tamika. She is the type of nurse we aspire to be.
