Tami has been heaven sent to my family. My mother was in the hospital for three weeks and only came in to have a routine CT scan that nearly ended her life. My mother was admitted in the hospital because she had a code blue during the scan and she remained in the hospital for three weeks which included 7 days on an antibiotic (which caused her kidneys to stop functioning) 2 procedures, one exploratory surgery and 2 stays in ICU. Needless to say, during her time in the hospital she encountered several nurses, doctors and care partners but none more memorable than Tami.
My mother was not an easy patient as she had multiple ailments as she has CGH, high blood pressure, and an extensive number of allergies. She poses a challenge to any healthcare provider but that did not scare Tami. Tami was always sensitive and understanding to my mom as well as her family. Tami managed to take care of my mother like she was her own mother. I have a very strong belief in God and I truly believe Tami was placed into my mother's life for a reason. During my mom's time in the hospital, I had to leave town for three days and it was very hard to leave her, but I had a little peace of mind knowing Tami was her nurse.
When I returned, she kept me informed of her treatment and the next course of action. Tami still takes an interest in my mom's health and calls to check on her every day, and she has been home for two weeks. Tami meets a different patient with different needs every day, which I am sure is physically and emotionally draining and imagine one can become desensitized to sick people, but Tami is one of a kind. I never wanted my mom to go through any of this, but everything happens for a reason and my family was introduced to Tami which has definitely reminded us of the decency of some people, which is so easy to forget with the state of the world today. We now have a new family member in Tami who I can honestly say we love and appreciate and Chesapeake Regional has one amazing nurse on their staff, cherish her!
