This nurse also sent him a card after he had to stop his treatments, letting him know she missed seeing him, that she was praying for him, and to not give up.
This nurse was my dad’s nurse in Gibbs Infusion for almost two years during his chemo treatments. I feel she went above and beyond in caring for him and making sure he was comfortable. She would always rearrange his appointment days and times, if necessary, so she could care for him and keep him in “his” same treatment room each time. This does not seem like a big deal, but it was very comforting to him to know where he was going and who his nurse would be for the day when he came for his chemo treatments. My dad would always ask when I picked him up to take him to the cancer center if this nurse was going to be his nurse. This nurse also sent him a card after he had to stop his treatments, letting him know she missed seeing him, that she was praying for him, and to not give up. He showed me the cards when he received them and told me how much that meant to him. During times when his treatments got postponed due to blood work out of range, she would always text me to see how he was doing. This nurse also helped me (his son) tremendously. She would call or text me during the day and let me know how he was doing and how the treatment was going and provided me with the estimated time the treatments would be over so I could be there to pick him up. This nurse did a great job in caring for my dad. After his death, we found the cards he had kept that this nurse sent him throughout his illness. Congratulations, Tammie Swanger, our December DAISY Award winner!
