My child has multiple diagnoses with special needs. She is mostly non-verbal and during times of distress or anger tends to lash out aggressively. She pinches or bites or hits. The pinching is the WORST. Well, she had to have a blood draw. She is not an easy stick AT ALL and often has to be stuck many times to get a vein. As soon as Tammy came into the room with a blood draw kit, my daughter became aggressive. Despite the aggression, Tammy took the time to find the "best" option to hopefully get her in one stick while dodging the attempts to pinch, hit and bite. None of the options were good by any stretch but she did manage to get her on one stick, which never happens. But my child did get her. She pinched her super super hard (hard enough to cause an immediate bruise) and Tammy still treated her with kindness, care, and respect. She completed the blood draw despite that pinch having hurt quite a bit and chose to encourage my child and be sweet toward her. I know in such a situation it can be hard to remain calm and kind immediately after you get hurt. We have had caregivers in the past at different places that were nowhere near as kind or caring. Thank you so much, Tammy, for remaining kind, caring and courteous.
