Tammy cares for each of her patients just like she would for a family member. She genuinely cares.
Tammy can step into any situation and make it better. She has many times walked into a hornet's nest of trouble in a patient's room and walked out laughing and joking with the same people who were so upset a few minutes prior.
The most important lesson I have learned from Tammy is to put other peoples' needs ahead of my own. This is a difficult skill to master, and one that Tammy demonstrates every time we work together.
Tammy connects with people and makes it look easy. She always finds a way to break through to the most challenging patients. Recently there was an unhappy man in his 40s being admitted for chest pain. Tammy noticed the sports team on his hat and started up a discussion about football; debating which team has a better quarterback. Then there was a little girl who was scared about getting a shot. Tammy struck up a conversation about who braided her hair and had her laughing, almost to the point of tears.
If you were to ask her, what makes her do all these special things for her patients, she would tell you, "I am just doing my job." Tammy is a true DAISY Nurse.
