I would like to thank the staff and share my story about why I believe they are so special: I would like to submit one of the nurses in my office for some sort of award. The nurse is Tammy Marsh. She is an LPN at my office and has been there for several years. Consistently, she has demonstrated tremendous compassion, but has recently gone way beyond it.

One of my patients has recently fallen on hard times. The patient is intellectually impaired - maybe a 2nd-grade-level IQ. He also has a very bad seizure disorder. He recently had a seizure and wound up shattering his shoulder. Unfortunately, he is not able to drive, lives with his mother, and has very limited resources. His care is beyond what the local surgeons can provide, and he was referred to an orthopedist at Shoal Creek.

Tammy took it upon herself to get him set up for his appointment and then went a step further by driving him there on her lunch break. She waited for him and drove him back home after the appointment. He is set up for surgery in 8 days. Then, she realized that his blood pressure is out of control and took it upon herself to go through his meds. He can't read and has not been taking any of his meds correctly, so she has purchased him some med boxes and has set him up with daily meds to make it easier for him to make sure he takes the right meds & keep his blood pressure controlled so his surgery doesn't get canceled.

Additionally, our office social worker has started the application process for Social Security disability. Tammy has gone out of her way to care for this man; she has done all of this on her own. The crazy thing is, is that this is absolutely not the first she has done this. Tammy is known for helping fill med boxes for other patients, delivering meals to people who are food insecure, and even delivering medication samples to patients who are snowed in. As I said, Tammy needs to be acknowledged for what she has done. We can't let this genuine empathy go unnoticed.
