I was admitted in January to induce labor. Tammy was my nurse for my first 12 hours there. She was knowledgeable and explained everything to us in a way we could understand. She was reassuring and kept me calm through 3 doses of medications that did not seem to be moving my labor along. I delivered my son early in the morning the next day. Tammy arrived for her next shift shortly after and greeted us with a smile.

We were truly happy to see her and felt more at ease knowing she would be helping us throughout the day. Fast forward to about 3 hours after birth. Tammy was in my room helping me walk to the restroom. We stopped by my son's rolling crib and stopped to admire him. I commented on the cute baby noises he was making. Tammy immediately recognized these were not "cute" noises but that my newborn was in respiratory distress. She immediately sat him up and began to burp him until tons of mucus came out of his mouth.

Within minutes she had called in the NICU team and our baby had a tube down his throat and monitors attached to him. He was moved to the NICU and very quickly diagnosed with pneumonia. He remained in the NICU for 8 days on a feeding tube with a central line into his belly button. He's now healthy as can be and has been at home with us for 3 weeks.

So many wonderful people were vital in the care of our son. We feel so grateful to Tammy specifically for recognizing our son was in distress and jumping into action so quickly. In our minds it made all the difference and even if this would have been eventually caught we are so grateful no time was wasted thanks to Tammy.
