I came into Gottlieb Memorial as a 66-year-old female dialysis patient with a clotted fistula. After many much-needed lab tests, my arm was truly exhausted, black and blue, and painful all over. After going through all the poking, my arm just wasn't producing anymore. I was very concerned due to needing lab tests for my treatment. Had never gone through that and was even shocked to see my veins were empty. Along comes Nurse Tammy Nelson with valuable information. Letting the younger nurses know that lab work can be completed through the femoral catheter that I had, so there was no need for the excessive poking. I had what is called a pigtail which is for that purpose. She also saved the day for me when it came to redraws. Labs were getting wrong readings due to the IV running with medicine while drawing was done informed that the blood draw had to be below the IV. The way I felt about getting that information from Tammy, along with sparing me the agony from all them blood draws, was pure joy.

Thank you, Tammy, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
