Tammy leaned down toward her to tell her goodbye, and the patient looked up at her and said clearly, "I love you."
Tammy had a patient who was 92 years old and, due to health issues, rarely spoke. You really could not understand her when she did but one of the things she could say was "wig". Meaning, she wanted to put her wig on. Tammy would always help her put it on and fix it. The patient's granddaughter was the only one who could really understand the patient.
Unfortunately, the patient fell, they were unable to operate, and her health declined. For days after the incident, the patient was quiet and did not speak. When the patient was getting ready to go to Hospice, Tammy leaned down toward her to tell her goodbye, and the patient looked up at her and said clearly, "I love you." Tammy, the patient, and the granddaughter cried and hugged. Those were the first words that she had said in days.
