Tammy Spencer is the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Programs, Associate Professor of Clinical Teaching Specialty, and Lead Academic Advisor for the Baccalaureate Nursing Program at the University of Colorado College of Nursing. She is also a triple alumna of the College. She received her MSN in 1989, a post-master’s certificate in 2010, and her DNP in 2017.
Tammy was nominated for the Nurse Educator DAISY Award by her former student, who shared many reasons why Tammy deserves this award in her nomination. Here are some of the highlights in the former student’s words.
“Tammy is a role model and mentor for me and built a great foundation for my entire nursing career. I looked forward to going to Tammy’s class every day. Class was always fun-filled and interesting, and she has a unique way of teaching that allows students to retain information. She even used songs to help us with material! After exams, she would review our grades with us individually and help us in any way possible.

Tammy had great relationships with many faculty members, and even brought some in for guest lectures that were very inspiring and educating. She also would personally check in with students on the regular, and meet with them to help better their understanding in places they were struggling. She came to class with a positive attitude, and a smile every day, and this radiated onto the students. Personally, Tammy inspired me to become a knowledgeable, compassionate nurse.”
