My passion for the greater good continues to motivate me to wholeheartedly advocate for the patients and community I serve.
During my ten-year tenure with Novant Health. I have served in various roles, from bedside nurse to middle management.  I have a broad background in nursing, with specific training and expertise in the Medical-Surgical and Hospice inpatient settings. Currently practicing as a Heart Failure Clinical Services Navigator. I am a current member of the American Association of Heart Failure Nurses and actively seeking Heart Failure RN certification. Though I consider myself to be a born leader, my passion for impacting the lives of others, especially the underserved population led me away from leadership to my current role.  I realized the prevalence of chronic diseases within the community in which I live and serve. In my current role, I am allotted the opportunity to identify and address issues that impact the overall health of the patients I serve. I regularly assess patient’s social determinants of health and seek resources to alleviate barriers.

Nursing is my second career but my first love.  I initially began nursing school in 1990.  Due to family obligations, I left healthcare for several years. However, my innate nurturing instinct guided me back to the pursuit of nursing.  My passion for the greater good continues to motivate me to wholeheartedly advocate for the patients and community I serve.  As founding president of Piedmont Black Nurses Association (PBNA) I am driven to seek to improve the healthcare disparities within the underserved population. On any given day, I can be found serving my community, often providing clothing, toiletries, and food for the homeless neighbors of Charlotte, NC.  Serving as a delegate with the North Carolina Immunization Coalition (NCIC) allots me the opportunity to assist with reducing morbidity and mortality associated with vaccine-preventable diseases.

In addition to my dedication to the community, I find great pleasure in participating in the growth and development of others. Mentoring the next generation of nurses is integral and an attribute I will always nourish.  My future plans include obtaining my Masters of Nursing Education which will allow me the opportunity to become a nursing instructor and continue to shape the future of nursing.
