This was our 2nd visit to the ER in four days after my daughter had her tonsils and adenoids removed. We talked to the ER about 4:15 am Monday morning. The RN behind the desk saw blood and took action. She called back to get help and immediately got up and got a wheelchair and took my daughter straight back to an ER room. There were 4 nurses already there waiting for us. They all quickly took action to get my daughter taken care of. One of the nurses explained that the ENT on-call doctor was paged and it usually takes about 30 minutes for them to get to the hospital and it had already been 22 minutes. So not much longer and, my daughter was taken back to the pre-operating room.
Everything happened so fast and I remember this nurse, the surgery nurse, was so kind and reassuring not only to me but to my daughter as well. You could tell that she truly cared and showed concern for my daughter. We waited briefly in the pre-operative room before my daughter was taken back to surgery, where this nurse went with her. After the surgery, the ENT doctor came out to let us know that an artery had been bleeding and that they had to pump her stomach while back there. In addition, she would be admitted and we would be called when she was being transferred to a room. Not only was this nurse there with everything before the surgery, but also after. She stayed with my daughter until we were ready to go up to the room and then personally took us up herself.
My daughter told me that while she was in the OR they wanted her to lie down but she could not due to feeling like she was choking. So this nurse held my daughter until the anesthesia took effect then they laid her down. When I think of the loving, supportive, and compassionate care shown to my daughter in that crazy, scary time it brings tears to my eyes. As a mother, you want to be there at all times, but I was unable due to the surgery that took place. To have this nurse show that motherly love and compassion to my daughter during this difficult and uncertain time is truly an act that needs and should be recognized.
My daughter continued to praise how all the nurses gave her loving care, during the whole ordeal. Tamra holding her in the operating room is a memory that will never be forgotten. I have been telling others about the wonderful experience we had with this nurse and about all the nurses in the ER and on the Pediatric floor during her stay. Stormont Vail Health has exceptional nurses. This is no doubt in my mind.
