The most recent situation that demonstrates how Dr. Mellard has made a meaningful impact in my academic journey would have to be my first clinical experience with her. We were doing our peds clinicals in a ped's mental health facility, so were were limited in regards to the kind of assessment we could perform based on the facilities protocols. Dr. Mellard was always checking in on us, making sure that we were doing well and check in on our progress. She reminded us that, as nurses, we begin our assessment the moment the patient walks in through the door. Because of this, we could obtain a lot of information by merely observing and conversing with our patients.
