There is a patient in our medical facility with a stay going on a month due to multiple medical and psychiatric needs, and lack of current functioning. This patient is a challenge in a medical facility as they require staff to step up to all the challenges to have patience, empathy, and understanding, beyond medical training and experience.
The nursing staff on Montplaisir have been proactive in learning this gentleman's specific needs and communicating with all the team members to provide care that you would see on a psychiatric inpatient floor. While I have witnessed all the efforts, I would like to notice Tania. Tania has persevered and thought outside the box. While the patient has been following a behavioral program, Tania took it upon herself to change his environment and room and this helped to get him out of physical restraints, take him for a walk, and help him to feel less overwhelmed and frightened. Tania had observable pride and pleasure regarding this patient's progress. Her enthusiasm was refreshing to watch and made me feel proud to be part of this team.
