There was a depth of empathy, strength, and understanding that cannot be taught.
I would like to nominate our Emergency Department nurse for the extraordinary care she provided to my sister-in-law during a very frightening time when she came to the ED after experiencing a seizure.
From the moment she entered the room, it was clear that she truly adores her patients. She was incredibly personable, funny, and genuinely caring—exactly what our family needed in such an overwhelming moment. Her ability to connect so naturally helped calm not only my sister-in-law, but all of us who were scared and unsure of what would come next.
What stood out most was how she balanced clinical excellence with heartfelt compassion. She took the time to explain what was happening, made sure my sister-in-law felt safe and heard, and brought lightness into the room at just the right moments. Her sense of humor was reassuring without ever minimizing the seriousness of the situation.
Knowing that she is a cancer survivor herself made her compassion even more meaningful. You can tell that her own journey has shaped the way she cares for others—there was a depth of empathy, strength, and understanding that cannot be taught. It was evident in every interaction that nursing is not just her profession, but her calling.
Because of her, a terrifying experience became one where we felt supported, respected, and truly cared for. She is exactly the kind of nurse the DAISY Award was created to recognize, and we are so grateful for the exceptional care she provided.
