Without a second thought, Tanya walked over to the patient, hugged her, and rubbed her back while she cried.
I have had the great pleasure of working alongside Tanya for a few years now and am frequently blown away by her compassion and willingness to go above and beyond for her patients.
This week, Tanya was an angel to a very special patient (DT) on MedSurg. This patient has been in our hospital twice in the past month. Unfortunately, this sweet woman is a victim of suspected abuse and has cerebral palsy. Her mother (and caregiver) was diagnosed with cancer and was placed on hospice while DT was hospitalized. When DT was notified of her mother's diagnosis, she was devastated. Tanya spent hours upon hours with DT, comforting her during this difficult time.
Yesterday, DT was notified by family that her mother had passed away. Tanya's motherly love for DT was palpable. DT was walking the halls on MS teary-eyed on that afternoon. She stopped at the nurse's station and saw Tanya. Tanya stopped what she was doing and said "Honey, do you need me?" The patient nodded her head "yes" through her tears. Without a second thought, Tanya walked over to the patient, hugged her, and rubbed her back while she cried. Tanya had many other responsibilities on her plate this afternoon, but at this moment, her greatest priority was ensuring that DT felt loved and comforted during this difficult time.
Tanya is a blessing to everyone she meets. This day she was an angel to this patient in her time of need.
