Tanya came into the Heart Center on her day off to be a source of support for a mother who was alone and whose child was actively dying. This patient had been critically sick in the Heart Center for several months and Tanya had frequently been the bedside nurse. She had earned the trust of this mother who had voiced distrust of the medical team many times throughout the course of the hospital stay. The mother had requested Tanya to be there with her. Tanya generously gave her time to sit with this grieving mother.

She sat with them as Mom held her baby and explained everything that was happening with the dying process in a way that made sense to Mom.
