Tara ensured my mother was comfortable and medicated before she changed her dressing. She took the time to talk with my mother, who is hard of hearing, and answer our questions. There was so much confusion on certain protocols, Tara took the initiative to find out what needed to be done and ensured everyone else knew. She was a professional and positive leader to the rest of the team.
I heard her talking to her coworkers. She was kind, patient and understanding. Tara made sure they felt good about the tasks at hand and understood what the expectations were. There was a code blue on the floor, she kept the team calm, and made sure the other patients were still being taken care of. Afterward, she stopped by to make sure my mom did not need anything and that nothing had been missed while she was away helping with the code blue.
While doing her pass down for the day, she informed the new nurse in detail of my mom's needs, injury, concerns, hearing limitations and clearly articulated what the evening expectations would be for the oncoming nurse. Again, she took the time to listen to her coworker and ensure she felt comfortable with all the details she had been given and did not have any questions. She did the same for my mom before she left, briefed her on what her night would look like, and what tomorrow morning would entail. She patiently waited to see if my mom had any questions or concerns before she left.
Tara helped my mom get the leg cuffs on and off several times, fix the bedsheets, and use the restroom. She helped her move from the bed to the chair and back, got her an extra blanket for when she was cold and helped make the room as comfortable as possible. Tara also clarified some questions my mom had after the physician visit.
I realize there is very little time in the hospital for the nurses to accomplish the multitude of tasks they need to complete. Tara remained calm, understanding, considerate, patient, attentive, professional, wise and kind the entire time we saw her. Tara deserves affirmation, accolades, awards, and acknowledgment. She is amazing because she truly cares and has a servant's heart to serve her patients unconditionally and with love.
