Taking a quick trip to the rehabilitation and nursing center down the road isn't usually part of Tara Randazzo's daily routine, but that's exactly what she did when one of her patients needed a specific item to ease her pain.
The patient came to Addison Gilbert for evaluation and treatment of a catheter-related infection.
"I was calling the rehabilitation and nursing center to ask if someone could bring me the particular brand of soothing wipes I use there," the patient said. "They were the only things that would bring me comfort, but no one was able to bring them to me at the hospital."
Knowing how important this request was to her patient, Randazzo went to the center herself, got the wipes, and brought them back to the patient.
"I looked at her and said, 'You went over to get these for me?'" the patient recalled. "Tara looked at me as if it was no big deal at all. I have never ever met anyone so amazing. Marvelous isn't even descriptive enough. Astounding. Remarkable. She made me cry. She cares about the whole patient, not just her tasks. She is beyond a nurse. She is meant to take care of people."
