Tara demonstrates extraordinary, compassionate nursing care, but also exceptional communication skills. Tara's enthusiasm and passion for nursing are clear. Her experience with M has made a visible, measurable impact on the outcome of her care. Tara advanced her recovery under the guidance of the medical doctors, who have done a stellar job in managing M's care. Tara made it known that she would coach M throughout this process and offered inspiration during her periods of pain and discomfort. Even on her worst days, Tara provided motivation and hope that things would resolve and move in the right direction. She would challenge M by doing things like having her perform the Incentives Barometer during the hourly check-ins. This kept M on task with her responsibilities but also advanced her recovery. Tara would always enter the room with enthusiasm and cheer. Here mere presence was sweet, caring and optimistic for us, the parents, but also for M, who enjoyed her visits. When it came to times where we had medical questions, Tara was able to respond scientifically, but also provide it in laymen's terms. She would research things that may not have been completely understood and be able to articulate it in a clear, concise manner. Tara has a great disposition and clearly an enjoyable view of her job at CHOP, which shows in how she carries herself. We feel that she optimizes the values and virtue of Children's Hospital. She is clearly a leader and has chosen a career that suits her well. That is one of treating people who need help, but also one where she does it with a smile. Our successful outcome was clearly a result of Tara's assistance and nursing capability throughout this process. We love the staff here and are blessed that such a hospital exists. We also love participating in the daily rounds, the staff is so impressive! For someone who can bring a smile to your face and sweet as she is, it's funny to see someone with such an appropriate name, Shugars.
