Tariq is outstanding among the group of volunteers. He is consistently and persistently active in voluntary works. Based on our observation in the last bronchial asthma disaster, he was very cooperative as he stayed after duty to help, at night he came again and worked for the whole shift. When morning came he still refused to leave as wanted to continue working. He left only after convincing him that he will be called if needed.
He is a caring person, he gives from the heart towards his patients and all patients in general. He always stays late after duty to serve patients. We have never seen a nurse dealing with patients and family members as much as him, he is absolutely passionate and offers the utmost care to the patients. Another disaster happened just last week where a building used as a parking lot fell. Our department was alerted to get ready. He came forward to inform us that should there be a need for any help he was willing to stay more.
He is observed to have excellent communication skills. He takes time to sit with his patients and talks with them like they are his family. In our usual setting, the doctors take the full responsibility of explaining to patients. However, Tariq is more effective in making his patient understand their situation. Whenever a procedure is about to be performed on his patients, he sees to it that they understand what is going on. He is in constant dialogue with the physicians of his patients, clarifying their orders and in case he has doubts he makes sure that it is openly discussed with them. He wants to assure them that optimum care is received in whatever managements/procedures done. He is quick in his assessment especially when patients are at high risk, he sees to it that they are seen by the doctor especially to patients who are discharged and they are not yet clinically well. He is somebody who is not laid back when it pertains to his patients, he makes sure that he is giving them a good fight.
Given his enthusiasm described above, he maintains to be respectful, focused on work even in his documentation. Sometimes, his colleagues feel he is overly concerned with his patients. Not everybody knows that Tariq is taking care of his sick father; believing this dedication he has with work will be something good that comes back to him. The only reason that he takes permission from work is when his father becomes very sick otherwise, he does not have any record of absenteeism.
He also comes forward with new ideas and suggestions regarding patient flow that impacts both staff and patient satisfaction. He shares some systematic techniques that he does in carrying out doctors' orders, especially with the MAR sheet that he finds effective in reducing errors.
His head nurse's thoughts are that Mr. Tariq is knowledgeable, he is willing to learn, and he shares his thoughts also. He works beyond his capabilities, he always sees to it that he gives 100% care to all his patients, regardless of nationality, gender, and status of living. He truly cares for all patients.
