My 72-year-old husband, R, was operated on in St. Margaret's Hospital to correct three crushed vertebrae caused by falls from ladders. After surgery, he had tremendous back pain. Then, his intestines stayed asleep longer than typical. Throughout the ordeal, one of his nurses provided exemplary care. Her name is Taryn, and she was his night nurse during most of his visit. Her caring nature, attentiveness, and thoroughness are appreciated! It was evident that she had her nursing procedures down pat. For example, she prepared herself in the hall by reviewing his chart, putting her gloves on and off before touching anything, and immediately after procedures, and always remembered to cover my husband with a blanket, rehook up his leg compresses, and ensure his comfort. She didn't miss a beat! She clearly and thoroughly gave directions, making sure he knew he was at risk of falling and not to get in and out of bed without her assistance. She was attentive and was at his bedside within seconds of him pulling the nurse's cord or pressing the buzzer. If he looked uncomfortable, she would help reposition him. She didn't waver in going the final yard to ensure his safety or in performing her duties. When he needed help in the bathroom, she stayed with him throughout the process and ensured his dignity. When he was missing the toilet, she even repositioned his privates without hesitation or any embarrassment to him! When asked questions about infusions or drugs, she didn't hesitate to tell us what the drug was and what it was doing for his body; she was very knowledgeable and informative for us! Thank you, Taryn, for dedicating your life to caring for others! You certainly rise above the crowd and deserve this coveted award.
