I observed Taryn care for a patient in a way that gave this patient dignity and worth. The backstory is important in this case. The patient attempted suicide twice, stage IV cancer, two Ethics consults. A sister who lived in Florida, unrepresented as well. I knew that patient would die shortly after extubating. Prior to extubating, Taryn gave the patient a sponge bath, then took lotion and wiped his forehead and chin, then took Chapstick and wiped his lips, then took a wet swab and wet the inside of his mouth all with love and care for this patient knowing that he was going to die soon. I observed humanity at its best.
