I would like to thank this nurse and share my story of why this nurse is so special. Tatum works in the CV Operating room. More often than not this team of medical professionals does not have the opportunity to be recognized for their relentless efforts in keeping patients safe, stable and with positive outcomes physically, but caring for them and their families emotionally and mentally as well.
Their job is somewhat hidden when it comes to the pre/post recovery phase, especially in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care. There was a patient who was facing a very complicated, very high-risk surgery. This is never easy on the patient or the family, regardless of the circumstances. In this case, the surrounding dynamics made for a very compromising situation. The surgeon, as well as the complete OR staff, worked tirelessly and for an extended period of hours, however, the patient did not make it and passed away at the end of the procedure. The family, as well as the CVICU staff, awaited the patient's arrival so that visitation and closure could be done. When the patient arrived, she was already cleaned up, warm blankets on her and she appeared very peaceful. The family, while very emotional, could not say enough positive things about the staff here in the CVICU. However, they were extremely appreciative of Tatum Hendricks specifically. Tatum and the rest of the staff paid such fine attention to the detail in preparing the patient for the family to see and they noticed how much effort went into that. In the face of such a difficult situation and surrounding circumstances, unspoken acts of kindness and empathy are priceless. Tatum made a difference in the life's of the family that night, in the most difficult of circumstances. What a privilege it is to work with her and the powerful difference she makes!
