My three-and-a-half-year-old son was diagnosed with a rare type of leukemia in 2020. As a result, we spend many months staying inpatient in Scottish Rite. Our admissions could be as long as two to three months. There are many nurses that I would like to acknowledge for what they have done to my family. The whole Aflac team became our new family. We first met this nurse in August of 2020. My son was the first patient that she took care of. I told my husband that this nurse would be a great nurse. She loved taking care of my son. She always was gentle and kind. Her smile made my son smile. They both listen to many songs on YouTube, and often, this nurse would say that one of my son's songs stuck in her head for the rest of the day. This nurse also took great care of us. She would often check on us and ask if we needed any help. She mostly worked the night shifts. She would take care of my son at night without waking him up. Once she told me that she had changed his diaper, and he did not wake up. I was shocked because no one could change his diaper at night without waking him up. My son often would smile at her and hold her hand. Unfortunately, this horrible disease took my son's life. He passed away in the hospital in my arms. I want to nominate this nurse for the DAISY Award in honor of my son. She is truly an exceptional nurse and a wonderful human being. If my son were verbal, he would say a big thank you.
