Taylor Hritz, BSN RN

Taylor is one of our newer nurses in the ICU. She was the nurse for a critical 33-year-old patient. The patient was to be transported to Pittsburgh, and the flight team had just landed. Taylor immediately noted a change in the patient’s neurological status and notified the ICU charge nurse immediately.

The patient was then unable to be transported to Pittsburgh due to her status change. Taylor’s assessment skills changed the course of care for this patient, and her overall care throughout the day was incredible, showing how well she is developing as a new nurse. 

Not only did Taylor take excellent care of the patient, but she also showed so much compassion and kindness towards the patient’s husband and three small children. At times, the children would ask Taylor questions about their mom that I, being a nurse for many years, could not have answered without tears coming from my own eyes. When the family left, the husband and children asked me to tell Taylor “Thank you” for all her hard work and kindness that she showed to them.

I believe this is what the J. Patrick Barnes family's DAISY Award truly means.
