Taylor was one of the floor nurses who was part of the care team for a patient we had admitted to Pikes Peak Hospice. She is a young woman, 26 years old, with a neurodegenerative disorder that has left her bedbound, and she has difficulty communicating. The patient said she wanted to see outside and particularly see the sunrise, so Taylor took it upon himself to make this happen. He was able to take the patient outside early enough in the morning so that she could see the sunrise from the Helipad of the hospital! What an incredibly thoughtful and compassionate thing to do for this young lady who will likely be dying in the next few days. It seems like a very simple request for somebody NOT in her condition to see the sunrise, but it was quite the challenge in this instance. What an amazing act of kindness that she and her family will never forget. Nurses like Taylor shine the light on a profession that can be so challenging and heart-wrenching at times, and they make terrible circumstances like a 26-year-old getting ready to pass away have beautiful memories that the family can hang onto forever. A moment like that is priceless.
