Mile High Delivery- In April three North Kansas City Hospital NICU nurses found themselves using shoestrings and heated water bottles to save a baby, born 11 weeks early, in an airplane bathroom. Lani Barnfield, BSN RN, Amanda Beeding, BSN RN, and Mimi Ho, BSN RN all nurses from North Kansas City Hospital NICU, were on a flight bound for Honolulu. About halfway through the flight, someone called out for medical assistance. Lani went to see what was happening and she found a woman holding a newborn baby in her hands. Dr. Dale Glenn, a medical physician, onboard said, “The patient was very lucky to have three neonatal intensive care nurses on board. The great thing about this was the teamwork.”
