Tee Shuler is such a phenomenal RN. Tee makes great connections with her patients and is always striving to do her very best every day. We had a patient on our unit for a couple of weeks who wasn't necessarily hard to care for, but she had some difficult family dynamics (she and her daughter would fight in the room and on the phone, and no one would really come to visit her for days) and there was difficulty obtaining insurance authorization/obtaining a bed for her at an SNF, which was the safest plan of care for her upon discharge since she had recurrent falls and was very weak, and her family couldn't provide the necessary care to get her stronger. Tee cared for this patient several of her shifts over the course of her stay and developed a rapport with her, so when the patient decided, much to the dismay of her family, that she was tired of waiting and was coming home instead, Tee was there to have hard conversations with her and push back in a caring, professional way when the patient started becoming unfriendly and upset towards staff. Tee reminded her that we were here to support her decision and cared for her, but there had to be mutual respect. I don’t think anyone but Tee could have made this connection with the patient and gotten her from being mad and angry to laughing in a matter of an hour. By the time Tee was going over her discharge instructions with her, it was a master class in service recovery and really, a lovely way for the patient to leave the organization: receiving important discharge instructions, pop-quiz style, and reminding her that she didn't want to see her in this building again, only at the store. She helped the patient feel cared for during an unpopular decision and helped her be as safe and prepared as she could be. We are so glad to have Tee on C5!
