I brought my husband to the ER, he had a slow A-fib rhythm and low BP. Tenzin took him back to his ER gurney bay. My husband asked to use the bathroom before getting undressed. When he came back, he was pale. He started to get undressed and said he felt dizzy and might pass out. Tenzin immediately attached the EKG leads and noticed he was in SVT, rate 240, BP 60/40. She yelled out for an MD to come to the bay, but with no response, she pressed the code button. She was already setting up the 12 lead EKG and placing an IV. The team came in, she stayed by his side as he needed to be emergency cardioverted. She came out to me (I stepped out of the room) and said that he wanted me to come back in. After the cardioversion, his HR returned to normal with a stable BP. She provided us with emotional support, compassion, and professional integrity. I felt that he was the only patient she cared for. She was by our side constantly. She knew we had a child and ensured I had someone to pick him up after school. She also told me when he was stable that it was ok for me to go home. She took my cell phone number and said she would call. I felt comfortable leaving the ER for a short time because of Tenzin. Tenzin’s quick response, in my opinion, saved my husband’s life.
