Terence was my nurse on the day I got the news. He took the time to acknowledge that I was visibly upset and emotional.
I am 25 years old and suffering from kidney disease. I recently had a 2-week hospital stay where I was diagnosed with kidney failure. I was told I would need a kidney transplant and dialysis. It was devastating for me and my family. My hospital stay was during the Covid-19 pandemic so my family couldn't stay long after hearing the news.

Terence was my nurse on the day I got the news. He took the time to acknowledge that I was visibly upset and emotional. He made sure he check in on me every few minutes just to remind me that I wasn't alone. He was beyond understanding and caring. He gave me encouraging words at the time I needed it most. He even managed to get me to laugh for a few seconds. In the time that I felt the lowest he reminded me of the brightest parts of humanity. The ability to care and show empathy for a complete stranger. I'm grateful to have had him as my nurse in that moment.
