I was having my third awful night in a row, I was sad and slightly angry. Teresa asked me to sit down and do huddle with her. As we sat there I brought to her attention that I needed help with how I was feeling. She stopped what she was doing and actively listened to my concerns, something no other charge nurse has done. I voiced how I felt and how I desperately didn't want to feel this way. The strain and the acuity of the floor were starting to weigh heavily on me. She did not judge me or make light of my feelings, instead, she showed genuine concern for me. She offered me tips and tricks on how not to let the job of nursing or patients affect my mood. Through her advice, it changed my whole way of thinking. I thank her from the bottom of my heart. Before talking to her I was wondering if my calling was not in the service of others, after talking to her, I remembered why I had been called to the mission and service of my profession. I felt completely rejuvenated after our conversation I think this is absolutely going above and beyond in the service of others because she could have brushed me off or referred me to my manager. Instead, she took the time out of her busy night to show me value and compassion and for that, I am sincerely thankful. Because of her, I will continue serving my calling. I also would feel comfortable with going to her with anything I needed in the future.
