The manufacturer announced a national voluntary recall of multiple lot numbers to the US and all US territories based on follow-up from Tess’s initial escalation of the incident.
Patients rarely remember their limited waking time spent with their Operating Room Nurse. The OR nurse’s role is, first & foremost, to act as a patient advocate. As our patients are anesthetized and cannot raise their own voices, we take that role very seriously. Tess Granflor was right at her patient’s side when, during skin prep, a chlorhexidine prep stick’s inner glass ampule shattered. Thanks to the team’s quick response and care, no harm came to the patient. Tess immediately escalated the incident to her Manager and Materials Manager. The stock of chlorhexidine prep sticks with the same lot number were immediately removed from inventory. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. Recently, the manufacturer announced a national voluntary recall of multiple lot numbers to the US and all US territories based on follow-up from Tess’s initial escalation of the incident. Tess’s tenacity and desire to ensure safety for her individual patient allowed for the opportunity to provide a safe environment for patients throughout the nation. Tess’s OR patients don’t always witness her skilled compassionate care, but her team is grateful she provides outstanding nursing care to her patients every day.
