Teresa often cares for complex, special needs infants in the Special Care Nursery. Teresa spent many hours compassionately working with the family of an infant with a complex neurological status and many needs. She encouraged and supported both parents in exploring ways of comforting their infant. She taught them how to calm the baby using soft voices and gentle moves while the feeding was infusing. Two weeks after Teresa worked with the family, the infant was discharged. Both parents were smiling and confident that they were well prepared and competent to set up pump feedings, give medications and comfort their baby. Teresa's calm confidence and demeanor helps her deliver optimum care to families when they are frustrated. She listens attentively and patiently and helps parents feel part of the team caring for their infant.
