Sweet "T" is the heart of the Emergency Department, and an asset to our team. She has been a role model for me since the day I started. She defines what a nurse is. She is respectful to everyone, and everyone is treated with the same compassionate care if they come in for a common cold or a devastating stroke. She has shed tears with families, advocated for patients, and helps train new staff/nurses among many other roles.
Recently there was a medical emergency in our department. Even though Terese had multiple other patients she jumped in right away and took lead of the situation. Afterward Terese took the time to talk with the paramedic student and student nurse intern in helping explain the things that were done and address any questions, all while continuing to provide care to the other patients like nothing had happened. I continue to learn from her actions on a daily basis. I look up to her as a peer, and highly respect her opinion. Not only is Terese an amazing nurse/coworker, but she is a great friend.
Additional note the department Director
I was sitting in my office, working at my computer when I overheard Terese talking to a patient as she was waiting for the elevator to take the patient to their inpatient bed. I heard Terese say "this was a much quicker ride when we were in the old department" "but then you wouldn't want to be in that old place as this current one is much nicer, it's worth the long ride" "hold on now, I'm getting old and my driving isn't what it used to be" Laughter from the patient ensued as they got on the elevator.
This is just one example of how Terese remains engaged with her patient from the start of their visit to the end of their visit. She is a Rock Star when it comes to patient interactions.
