Terri listened intently to my concerns and sat beside me and gave encouragement, comfort, and a compassionate smile.
Terri was my husband’s nurse on the day he was extubated. This was the 2nd admission to the hospital. He was admitted to rehab Saturday AM and then returned to CRMH ER via ambulance Tuesday afternoon. To say the least, I was on edge from his condition deteriorating. He was intubated in the ER before I arrived. All the staff on every unit I have been on with my husband has been fantastic! I just retired from Carilion last year, so I know what is required to be a good nurse. From the beginning of that day, I came in to find him still intubated but awake. At first, it was disturbing but Terri reassured me that he was in no pain, which he was not. He was able to respond with a thumbs up and a nod and a grin. Terri took the time to explain everything so that I understood. She answered my questions in detail and calmed my anxious heart with an excellent bedside manner. She was very gentle and compassionate. My husband had a broken shoulder and was uncomfortable, she was quick to do her assessments and explain it all to me. She checked on us as a family frequently making sure of our understanding of the very difficult situation. She listened intently to my concerns and sat beside me and gave encouragement, comfort, and a compassionate smile. She checked on me and my husband after we were transferred to palliative care for several days. She went above and beyond to make sure we were okay. She is an excellent, compassionate nurse. Thank you, Terri, from the bottom of my heart for your excellent care plus, she took the time to shave his beard since ED took only half of it.
