Terry truly lightened the room with his bright personality and made a few jokes here and there, which we all needed, but remained professional. We truly need more nurses like Terry.
My family and I would like to nominate Terry, pre-op surgical nurse, for the DAISY Award. I would like to say I have incredibly higher expectations for medical personnel than most people would, and Terry literally went above and beyond. From the moment he called my two children’s names from the waiting room until the time of discharge- he provided exceptional and above and beyond care. I had two kids going into surgery and one of them is an autistic 4 YO and a rambunctious 18-month-old. The room was quite chaotic, but Terry was fast and efficient with his care.
As a nurse myself, I could tell that he had thoroughly read through both of my kids' charts/history before rooming us. He was with us most of our stay, and/or he checked in on us several times despite how busy the floor was. Not only did he have compassionate care for my two kids, but he was also incredibly considerate of us as parents and made sure we knew exactly what was going on from start to finish, what to expect, and just making sure mentally we were okay. He made sure my son (who is autistic) was comfortable and accommodated to his needs, and also made sure to inform any of the other staff entering the room of my son's needs. My other child, who was getting surgery, has significant food allergies. He also made sure to inform the staff of her allergies/sensitivities. My husband, who is not one to say anything, also made a comment about how much he liked Terry.

As a family, we’ve encountered hundreds and hundreds of medical professionals due to my son’s disabilities, and Terry has been by far one of the best nurses we’ve had interaction with. It would be an honor to our family for Terry to get a DAISY Award for the exceptional, extraordinary, and above-and beyond care he provided for our family and me.
