Ms. Thomas has such a bedside manner that she relieved all the apprehension we had concerning the exams our mother underwent earlier that day. Ms. Thomas took her time to explain that our mother had to have a CTA scan and an MRI with contrast. Ms. Thomas was calm and professional, even though my sister and I bombarded her with a plethora of questions.
Our agitation mounted when we discovered that our mother had two scans instead of the one we had been told about. Ms. Thomas not only explained what the CTA scan was but why the doctors made the best decision in scheduling the two scans. Ms. Thomas explained in detail what the procedures showed the physicians. She allowed us to express what concerns we had while explaining in a language our mother and we could understand. Ms. Thomas' knowledge of the information divulged in the physician's notes and her ability to break that information down so we could understand it, brought our tension level down to a level of appreciation for her and the physicians she works with.
My family and I just want to show Ms. Thomas and SMJH, how impressed and happy that our mother was under the care of a nurse with such a grasp of hospital procedures and how they are used to benefit their patients. My family has nothing but respect for Ms. Thomas and the institution that has the foresight to hire and retain a nurse with her abilities and communication skills.
