As you may know Mental Health issues can be very hard to deal with, not only for the patient but can be very taxing on the nurse trying to provide the best quality of care. I am no stranger to 3C acute MH and there are times when I check in that I feel ashamed or I feel as though staff may be judging me, almost as if they don't want to see me there. I've never once gotten this feeling from Mr. Sebena. He has always taken the time to seek me out and inquire as to why I'm inpatient and what went wrong. He will stop what he is doing to talk with me about any problems I am having that are interfering with my treatment and recovery. In other words he takes me at my word and realizes that, for me, advocating for myself is important in my health and recovery.
As bad as I feel during 3C stays the one constant has been Mr. Sebena. Without him there I'm sure I would have chosen suicide or using instead of coming to get help. Thaddeus Sebena has literally saved my life and for that he deserves recognition.
