Thalia Mazyck, BSN, RN

I nominate Thalia from East 5 for a DAISY Award. I strongly feel she deserves it! After being in the hospital for 22 days, coming home for two days, and going right back in for another 22 days. I was lucky to have Thalia basically every shift she worked! She understood me and how I felt about everything going on. This stay, in particular, was an emotional roller coaster, and she helped me through some of the tough situations. During a very difficult and overwhelming time in my hospitalization,Thalia consistently showed compassion, patience, and true dedication. She took the time to listen to my concerns, explain things in a way I could understand, and made me feel heard and safe. I feel like there were a lot of misunderstandings during this admission in particular, but she helped guide me through it and listened when no one else did.

Because of Thalia, I did not feel like “just another patient.” I felt supported, respected, and genuinely cared for. Their presence made a real difference in my healing experience, and I will always be grateful to have had her as my nurse. I never saw her mad, upset, or overwhelmed. She was always professional. She was always on time with my meds; if I needed my as-needed meds and asked, it never took her long. I hardly ever had to wait. My case is very complex, and I feel like she was the right nurse for me! She helped advocate for me since I never do that for myself. I feel like that is a super important trait in being a nurse! When no one else would listen, she did! She gave me my dignity and respect and let me have some independence when some wouldn’t. I am young, with so much going on and random things being thrown at me with no true answers as to why. Thalia didn’t just care for me as a patient. She cared for me as a whole person, and I respect that. We definitely could use more nurses like her! I do have to say she is one of my favorite nurses I have had throughout these 14 months of being in and out of the hospital.
