Thao Carey was caring for an elderly patient who was very ill. His family decided to put him on Hospice. The patient's primary MD does not believe in Hospice or giving the patient anything stronger than Tylenol for comfort during the dying process. Thao helped facilitate the transfer from the MD to the hospitalist, she was in with the family to help explain the reason this needed to happen; to make the patient comfortable. That same day, during Thao's shift, the patient passed peacefully. Thao was there to comfort them, and they were so grateful for all the help. The next day the family sent a large, beautiful flower arrangement addressed to Thao and CCU staff.

Your dedication to your work and your patients is truly remarkable and is something our family will always remember. We feel so blessed that you were on his care team. Thank you for answering all of our never-ending questions, bringing us food, coffee, and water. Most of all, thank you for treating someone we all love with dignity and respect at the end of his life. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts."
