In addition, to working many hours of overtime in COVID ICU over the past months, Theil has also been deployed two times to assist other facilities with their Covid-19 response and one time to assist in demobilizing an alternative care site. Despite all of this, she always asks what more she can do to assist the facility.
Recently, Theil came to my office prior to a family vacation she had planned months ago. She said she looked at the schedule during the coming week (when she was going to be off), and it appeared there were some staffing needs. She volunteered to cancel her vacation to stay here and work. She said the vacation is already paid for so her family can have a good time and she can work. She stated that she did not want to leave her coworkers short-staffed.
I was taken back by this selfless act. In addition, to working many hours of overtime in COVID ICU over the past months, Theil has also been deployed two times to assist other facilities with their Covid-19 response and one time to assist in demobilizing an alternative care site. Despite all of this, she always asks what more she can do to assist the facility. I told her that she needed to take care of herself and enjoy the vacation with her family. I felt that she reluctantly agreed.
Selfless acts like this are not unique for Theil. One weekend she agreed to work overtime in the ED to assist when they had a critical staffing shortage. When it starting raining hard before her shift, Theil jumped into action. She showed up early and shuttled her coworkers from the parking lot to the front door of the hospital so they would not have to get wet.
